This is another piece that I first made last semester and it was ruined in the bad pour. The first version had no edge around part of the rim of the turtle shell. It could not be repaired in my opinion [my teacher urged otherwise.] It was cut up and the bronze was reused in this version. I like this version better.
My cousin, Savrina, is THE feng shui expert. She asked for a turtle with dots be made. The dots in each of the sections of the turtle were placed in the particular section purposefully and are significant as representing the Pa Kua: the 8 root trigrams of the I Ching. The image of a turtle with the dots is an important feng shui image. You will notice that in addition to the dots in each section, I added an symbol/image. Each of these images is of something positive or lucky in feng shui symbolism: yin/yan [side section near tail] represents balance, three legged toad [above the turtle's head] brings wealth, the double circle [on the top section] and the double diamond [on a side section near the tail] deflect bad energy, the bat [on the tail section] is a precious animal and represents good luck, the fish [on a middle side section] achieves good luck, there is the double happiness sign on a middle side section and the longevity sign on a side section near the head, the symbol to the left of the frog is also "auspicious" and attracts prosperity and luck .
Savrina has not seen this yet. I will post her comments unless she posts them herself.

I love the "happy" turtles.
My wonderful and talented cousin gave me a very special, or as we Feng Shui Consultants say, Auspicious Turtle. I asked her to make me a Feng Shui Turtle and I didn’t want to influence her by making too many suggestions. I just wanted to let her true talent shine. Whatever came out was going to be loved and cherish by me. But when she emailed me a photo of the turtle after it was made I was amazed she had done her homework. The turtle had Auspicious symbols all over it along with the Lou Shu.
The Turtle or Tortoise is a very popular symbol in Feng Shui. Turtles are a symbol of support and are used in combination with other animals such as you may see a Dragon Turtle which is a Turtle with a Dragon Head. Chinese combined animals so that they bring in the powerful qualities each of the animals. Sometime you may see a statue or symbol of an animal standing on the back of a turtle this is all so a symbol of support. When using the turtle you can place them in the back of the home as a symbol of the Black Turtle or Mountain support, or behind you when you have no wall or backing at your work desk or home.
The Feng Shui Symbols on the Turtle.
The dots are part of what we call the Magic Square, Lou Shu or Pa Gua dating back to around 2800BC. Each square has dots adding up to nine. It is said that a Yellow Emperor noticed the markings on the back of a turtle. Lou Shu means “River Map” and the history is written in the “The Book of Changes” or the I-Ching, tablets of stone that today still remain intact and available for viewing in China. Very few cultures can say that they have such detailed history documented dating back to this age and beyond. These dots/numbers are used when calculating one type of Feng Shui a method called “Flying Stars”.
It is also said that these dots line up with our Constellation, therefore when a Feng Shui Consultant uses this method it really is “Flying Stars”.
The turtle has other symbols on it as well; Yin & Yang, the Three-Toed Frog or Money Frog, the Double Happiness symbol, Victory Banner, the Double Coin or Wealth symbol, the Longevity symbol, the Golden Carp for Opportunities symbol, the Lucky Bat and the Key of Knowledge.
All are displayed on the shell of a smiling, happy turtle.
Thank you again cousin, I will cherish it always.
